I made a speed paint time-lapse of my witch cat character I'm using for my Spine 2D animation tutorial series! This was a lot of fun to make. I'm not usually the one making the art at work and I've become pretty rusty with drawing in general, but I feel surprisingly good about this. It took about 6 hours to make and felt like 57 hours.
I'll be rigging and animating her in Esoteric's Spine 2D software and using her throughout the series. I'll have the next tutorial out soon, when I do I'll share the link here:
(sad empty space because I'm still slacking)
Some good tips I learned from doing this:
Use references for EVERYTHING. Not just in character design, but for color pallets and coloring style too. I don't know why I never thought to reference these things before.
Copy/pasting for other views and using the warp tool saves a TON of time. Took about 2 hours to finish the front view, but only 3 hours to finish the 4 other views. It also keeps the art consistent.
The symmetry tool is beautiful.
Next time I might try making my views on top of each other and flip between them as I would while animating because I noticed a few areas that needed work when I created the animated turnaround at the end.
Timestamps:
00:00 - This is sketchy
01:00 - Thieving colors and style from my references
03:11 - Too lazy to draw something twice
06:09 - You spin me right round baby
