Umar Khalid, a member of Bhagat Singh Ambedkar Students Organisation and an ex-student of JNU shot to limelight after allegedly organizing an event to protest against the “judicial killing” Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Umar Khalid was a student of PhD in JNU’s Centre for Historical Studies. Khalid was recently in news after surviving as an assassination attempt.
Decoding India is about a person’s feelings and emotions towards their country. What they feel when they think or talk about their motherland. What does the country mean to them? What comes into their mind when someone says ‘nationalism’ or ‘patriotism’? It means different things to different people, and this is what we aim to explore. Here we talk to Umar Khalid and ask him about his journey and what the country means to him and how along the way his perception has changed if at all it has changed. His take on education and the importance of quality education for everyone, on fake news and mob lynching.
