Sistah Kujichagulia is an Author, Griot, Warrior-Scholar, and Spoken Word Musician. Dr. Serie McDougal, III is a Full Professor in the Department of Pan African Studies, California State University, Los Angeles.
Sistah Kujichagulia’s latest book is titled Recognizing & Resolving the Roots of Racism.
She is a true Renaissance woman who for the past forty years has utilized education and the arts to fight racism as well as all forms of social injustice.
A former professor of Ethnomusicology and African Civilizations at Stanford University and World College West, Sistah Kujichagulia has been recognized as one of the “Kings & Queens of Black Consciousness,” along with Dr. Cornel West, Sonia Sanchez, and Amiri Baraka.
In 2002, she was a Culture & Spirituality Committee Member of the United States Delegation to the 2nd World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) in the Caribbean country of Barbados.
In addition to advocating for prisoner’s rights, for nearly 20 years, Sistah Kujichagulia has taught Language & Performance Arts through “Arts In Corrections”, and the California Department of Corrections at DVI, Folsom, Soledad, and San Quentin Prisons.
She has performed and lectured extensively throughout the continental USA, the Caribbean, and England.

Dr. Oba’s second guest Dr. Serie McDougal III. will be featuring part two: of a three part presentation.
He received his B.S. in sociology from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Additionally, he has a MA in Africana Studies from the State University of New York at Albany NY, and a Ph.D. in Africana Studies from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
He is the author of two books, Research Methods in Africana Studies and his most recent book, Black Men's Studies Black Manhood and Masculinities in the U.S. Context.
Dr. Serie McDougal is also the co-director of the Afrometics Research Institute.
