We (both of my sisters and myself) decided to climb Rangitoto Island and then camp overnight at Motutapu Island, in the Hauraki Gulf close to Auckland city. We took the ferry over to Rangitoto Wharf, climbed to the summit to look at the view as well as the crater. Then we hiked back down to Islington Bay Wharf. From Islington Bay, we crossed the causeway to Motutapu Island. We took the Motutapu Causeway over farmland and cliff tops, which lead to Home Bay, where there is a DOC campground. We stayed overnight there. (I didn't film much on the second day). Rangitoto Island is a 600-year-old basalt shield volcano, the newest landmass in the Hauraki Gulf. Motutapu Island is 178 million years old, one of the oldest land masses in the Hauraki Gulf.
I'm a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Hamilton, New Zealand. My videos are a mix of music, and hiking the outdoors. Ceolskog is my folk metal / heavy metal / country rock (and some other genres) band. It is also the name given to this hiking and nature-themed YouTube channel. Ceol means music in Irish, and skog means forest Norwegian and Swedish. I don't have a Patreon, but if you're a regular viewer, and you want to support me some way, you can find my music on Spotify, Bandcamp, iTunes, Soundcloud, Amazon, and YouTube too (of course).
