Census data released overnight has confirmed a generational shift in Australia, with Millennials now rivalling Baby Boomers as the largest generation.

Those aged 25 to 39 make up 21.5 per cent of the population — the same as those in the 55 to 74 age bracket.
The national snapshot also found nearly half of all Australians have a parent born overseas, and more Australians are identifying as Indigenous.
