White House LIVE: Karoline Leavitt Briefs on Trump's Davos Trip & on Greenland Tariffs Threat | CNBC TV18
WASHINGTON, D.C. - White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt holds briefing ahead of President Donald Trump’s departure for Davos.
US President Donald Trump shared private messages from world leaders about Greenland in multiple social media posts overnight, including one from French President Emmanuel Macron that reads: “I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland.”
Trump said he agreed to a meeting about Greenland at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, while he reiterated his threats to acquire the Arctic island, declaring it “imperative for National and World Security.”
At the forum today, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed strong support for Greenland and Denmark, also speaking about the need to build “a new form of European independence” in the face of “geopolitical shocks.”
Meanwhile, disunity over Greenland threatens NATO’s “continued existence as a unified bloc,” according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
