Motorcycling Tour Ireland to Romania Ep 12 - Montenegro.
In this video, we continued on our journey from our hotel Berane in Montenegro - sorry that we didn't get to see Berane in daylight, but we set off the next day and it started raining more heavily as we entered the Matesevo National Park, stopping off for a coffee at the Komovi view point, and had a chat with some bikers from Germany and Poland, who were travelling the opposite way - we were able to warn them about the roadworks section further down the road etc - and continued on to find the bike shop in Podgorica that had said they have the tyres that Raymond wanted for his Africa Twin. When we eventually found the shop ( Sat Nav acting silly buggers again, took us into the city ), we were welcomed by the shop owner who introduced us to his son who spoke English, while he went to his garden, at the back of the business, to pick some fresh figs for us - great customer service and they had the Africa Twin sorted in no time, while we washed our bikes.
We left there and headed for Cetinje, and started climbing into the nearby hills and mountains of Dubovic, Njegusi and then absolutely loving the views and changing vistas as we arrived at the top and were finally able to see Kotor Bay ( I'd read many rave reviews about this place which is why it was on to "to do" list ), but the views had to be experienced first hand - absolutely gorgeous scenery, especially in the evening light.
We also found that everyone else in the world seemed to have descended into Kotor Bay too that evening as the traffic was horrendous - queues, and waaaay too many cars trying to fit into the narrow streets and roads. We got petrol and tried to find accommodation, but as expected, this place was fully booked - even the campsites - so via booking.com, we found an AirBnB, in Radovici - about 6 miles away, so gingerly got ourselves out of the crazy traffic, and on the road to Radovici...in the dark.
Once there, we had difficulty trying to locate the property, but eventually got it, parked up and were met by the host Igor, who welcomed us, showed us the property etc and asked us to join him , his dad and uncle for a drink in their house bar - the accommodation we were in was an annex to their family home - , so we took up the invitation and were treated to some draught beers, then the Slivovitz rocket fuel came out...in home measures.....their version of Poteen !!
Igor kindly lent me his laptop as my external drive for storing my SD footage from the Go Pro, was having problems and needed to be connected to a computer - top man.
It was really interesting talking to these people, listening to their view of the world. They couldn't believe that there still wild brown bears in Romania, as he said in Montenegro "we shoot everything", so there would be none left. They had all been in the war by the sound of it, and had their own views on each part of the old Yugoslavia. Such a nice change to speak to locals at home, rather than in a campsite/tourist bar or restaurant.
I retrieved the bottle of Bowmore whisky that I had bought in the Ferry Duty Free shop on the way here, to let them try some of the smoky flavoured whisky.....they loved it, so when we went to bed, after some several home measures, I left them the remainder of the bottle to enjoy.
The next morning, we were all up bright and early ready to start the next part of the return journey, heading to TIVAT on the coastline of Kotor Bay, where we could get a short ferry to continue on up the coast to visit Dubrovnik and where ever else we could get to, beyond there, before dark.
What a trip !!
