Can You Spot the Blood Draw Mistakes?

What are four of the most common mistakes people make when drawing blood?

1. Retouching the area after cleaning it. This is so instinctive for a lot of people that they don't even realize they do it. Instead, palpate first, clean, and then insert the needle once dry.

2. Not holding the needle bevel side up during the stick.

3. Not anchoring the vein/skin. Although veins are more stable in the AC region, anchoring still helps the needle slide in and helps keeps the vein stable.

4. Don't touch the needle because it is sterile and also risks needlestick injury.
