Sailing 200nm To Guadeloupe Using No Fuel!! [EP.6]

This week we head over to Guadeloupe. When we left St. Martin we intended to head straight to Guadeloupe but as so often happens in sailing you cant really keep to a schedule, Mother Nature tells you when you can leave and what route you need to take. After spending a week in St. Barths waiting for the southerly winds to shift more east, we thought we had seen a good window to leave but it was still an upwind sail. Rather than tacking up the windward side of St. Kitts and Montserrat we decided it would be best to head over to the leeward side of St. Kitts and spend the night in the most southern end of the island. That day we covered 70nm (sailing miles) to Whitehorse bay, this difficult sail had us questioning whether this whole sailing thing was really as great as we had built it up to be in or heads. We pushed through the next morning to the only viable anchorage in Montserrat, Little bay. Again another 70nm upwind sailing in 12 hours. Finally we made it to Deshaies, Guadeloupe after three day sails from St. Barths. Sweet relief!! Our little Wharram Tiki 30 has proven to be a more than capable craft for the Caribbean sailing.
Guadeloupe is an enormous island. So far we have had a great time exploring the island. The rivers and fresh water pools in Deshaies have been by far my favorite part about this island.
We leave you in Les Saints, a small group of islands just 7 miles south of Guadeloupe.
