In plural societies, Muslims typically live side by side with non-Muslim neighbours, and work alongside non-Muslim colleagues. In the course of this frequent contact, it is common for Muslims to receive invitations to events, and food and gifts from non-Muslims, and to also be expected to give the same. These acts build ties between people and it is important to know whether this is encouraged in Islam. This video explores whether these acts and the building of social ties between people of different faiths are acceptable in Islam, and whether there are instances from the lives of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions that demonstrate this permissibility.
