Memory formation involves the hippocampus, a part of the brain responsible for converting short-term memories into long-term ones. Other brain areas like the amygdala handle emotional memories, and the prefrontal cortex helps manage working memory.
However, memory is not perfect. It can fade, distort, or be influenced by factors like emotions, aging, and trauma. Interestingly, the brain can also reconstruct memories, making them prone to change over time.
Overall, human memory is essential for learning, navigating daily life, and forming relationships. It reflects both the brilliance and fragility of the human mind.
