1968-built powerful DB BR 294 Shunting Special Cargo Ops in Erlangen

A very interesting experience;

Although I have spotted this exact road switcher (or shunter in B.E. or simply Rangierlok in German) multiple times passing by Bruck Bahnhof in Erlangen, this was the first time it was spotted before this point!
The BR 294 was shunting 8 tank wagons on top of 4 Sgs/Sgsr3-type container wagons of the Waste Management Association Erlangen (Zweckverband Abfallwirtschaft ER/ERH) which is the cargo I've always spotted hauling. The loco was seen heading afterward to the Erlangen Bruck crossing where it will then have to disengage from the cars, pass them from the adjusting track and then haul them to head towards Fürth / Nürnberg.

Diesel locomotives are not as common as their electric counterparts on the routes leading to or approaching Nürnberg Güterbahnhof (marshaling yard) [see my IG post on that].

But in this case, due to the lack of electrification on that track running parallel to the MDK, it is now understood that a diesel loco must be used.

The DB Class V90, later renamed DB Class 290, is a family of diesel-hydraulic locomotives for shunting and freight haulings. The 294 is equipped with a specific radio control system for remote controlling of the shunter at specific marshaling yards.

The successors of these beasts are the Voith Gravita 10BB shunters, referred collectively as BR 261.
