Getting a clean backstitch can be difficult if you are using the traditional single punch method. because most stitching chisels are tapered the hole on the bottom side or back side is always going to be smaller than on the front. My solution to this is to double punch all my leather goods. This means punching from both sides of the piece and than gluing everything together. The only adjustment to your stitching is to remove the cast, since the holes are facing opposite directions the "x" in the middle does the casting. Perfect stitch on both sides every time, there are a few things to consider when doing this method, watch to find out.
