Florida’s Overseas Highway is one of the most breathtaking drives in the world. But tucked away in the Florida Keys lies something stranger—a massive bridge that reaches into the ocean and then just ends in a place that seems like is the middle of the ocean. While the highway actually ends in the small city of Key West, the fact that it was built at all is a geographic marvel. One that was literally built on top of the foundation of railway that was demolished by a mega hurricane.
In this video, we'll cover the expansive geography of the Florida Keys and what makes them so different from mainland Florida. Then we'll dive into the history of Florida's Highway to Nowhere and talk about how it originated as a railway. Finally, we'll cover what the highway looks like today, who it connects and why it maintains as one of the most scenic drives in the entire world.
