Oklahoma City Museum of Art is the lone US stop of several dozen 2000-year-old frescoes saved by ash of Mt Vesuvius at Pompeii in 79AD. That's right – these works are going from Italy to Oklahoma then back again. No NYC, no LA. Running through October 17, 2021, "The Painters of Pompeii" offers a unique look at a distinct time in art history when people were truly beginning to appreciate art for art's sake for the first time. In this video interview by Gallery America host Robert Reid, we find out why this era of Roman art is so important AND what pieces stood out the most to two local curators.
