Świebodzin is a medium-sized town in western Poland, located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, roughly halfway between Poznań and the German border. With around 20,000 inhabitants, it serves as a local administrative and economic center. The town’s history dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was first mentioned in the 13th century as a fortified settlement. Over the centuries, it was influenced by Polish, Prussian, and German cultures, which is still reflected in its architecture and urban layout. Świebodzin’s most famous landmark is the Christ the King Statue (Pomnik Chrystusa Króla), completed in 2010 and standing 36 meters tall—making it one of the tallest statues of Jesus in the world. It has become a major symbol of the town and a point of pilgrimage for many visitors. The historic old town features charming streets, the Gothic Church of St. Michael the Archangel, and remnants of the medieval city walls. Świebodzin also lies near the scenic Łagów Landscape Park, offering forests, lakes, and opportunities for cycling and hiking. In recent decades, the town has seen steady development, benefiting from its strategic location near the A2 motorway and railway connections to Poznań and Berlin. Despite its modest size, Świebodzin has gained international recognition for its unique blend of history, faith, and symbolism.
Świebodzin to średniej wielkości miasto w zachodniej Polsce, położone w województwie lubuskim, mniej więcej w połowie drogi między Poznaniem a granicą niemiecką. Liczy około 20 tysięcy mieszkańców i pełni funkcję lokalnego ośrodka administracyjnego i gospodarczego. Historia miasta sięga średniowiecza – pierwsze wzmianki o Świebodzinie pochodzą z XIII wieku, kiedy istniała tu warowna osada. Na przestrzeni wieków miasto znajdowało się pod wpływem kultury polskiej, pruskiej i niemieckiej, co do dziś widoczne jest w jego architekturze i układzie urbanistycznym. Najsłynniejszym symbolem Świebodzina jest Pomnik Chrystusa Króla, ukończony w 2010 roku, mierzący 36 metrów wysokości – jeden z najwyższych posągów Jezusa na świecie. Stał się on znakiem rozpoznawczym miasta i celem pielgrzymek. W zabytkowym centrum znajdują się urokliwe uliczki, gotycki kościół św. Michała Archanioła oraz fragmenty średniowiecznych murów miejskich. W pobliżu leży malowniczy Łagowski Park Krajobrazowy z jeziorami i lasami, idealny na piesze wędrówki i wycieczki rowerowe. W ostatnich dekadach Świebodzin rozwija się dynamicznie dzięki położeniu przy autostradzie A2 i linii kolejowej łączącej Poznań z Berlinem. Pomimo niewielkich rozmiarów miasto zyskało międzynarodową rozpoznawalność dzięki swojemu wyjątkowemu połączeniu historii, wiary i symboliki.
