Top 9 Heaviest sauropods
9.Paralititan stromeri:
Paralititan (meaning "tidal giant") was a giant titanosaurian sauropod dinosaur genus discovered in coastal deposits in the Upper Cretaceous Bahariya Formation of Egypt. It lived between 99.6 and 93.5 million years ago
Little of Paralititan is known, so its exact size is difficult to estimate. However, the limited material, especially the long humeri, suggested that it is one of the most massive dinosaurs ever discovered, with an estimated weight of 59 t.The complete right humerus measured 1.69 meters long which at the time of discovery was the longest known in a Cretaceous sauropod
8.Dreadnoughtus schrani:
Dreadnoughtus is a genus of giant titanosaurian sauropod dinosaur containing a single species, Dreadnoughtus schrani. D. schrani is known from two partial skeletons discovered in Upper Cretaceous rocks of the Cerro Fortaleza Formation in Santa Cruz Province, Argentina.
The current estimate for the mass of the type specimen, created using a 3D skeleton and volume estimation of mass method, derives a range of 22.1–38.2 tonnes
Matt Wedel used volumetric models that yielded a much lower estimate between 35–40 tonnes or even as low as approximately 30 tonnes, based on a 20% shorter torso
7.Sauroposeidon proteles:
Sauroposeidon (meaning "lizard earthquake god", after the Greek god Poseidon) is a genus of sauropod dinosaur known from several incomplete specimens including a bone bed and fossilized trackways that have been found in the American states of Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Texas
With an estimated length of up to 34 m and a mass of 50–60 t,it also ranks among the longest and heaviest. However, this animal may not be as closely related to Brachiosaurus as previously thought, so these estimates may be inaccurate.
6.Patagotitan mayorum:
Patagotitan is a genus of titanosaurian sauropod from the Cerro Barcino Formation in Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.
Like other titanosaur sauropods, Patagotitan was a quadrupedal herbivore with a long neck and tail and is notable for its large size
In 2017 the species description of Patagotitan mayorum was published which estimated a length of 37 m long, with an approximate weight of 69 tonnes
5.Apatosaurus ajax:
Apatosaurus (meaning "deceptive lizard") is a genus of herbivorous sauropod dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Jurassic period
Apatosaurus was a large, long-necked, quadrupedal animal with a long, tail. Its forelimbs were slightly shorter than its hindlimbs
A 2015 study that estimated the mass of volumetric models of Dreadnoughtus, Apatosaurus, and Giraffatitan estimates CM 3018 at 21.8–38.2 t
4.Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum:
Mamenchisaurus is a sauropod dinosaur genus including several species, known for their remarkably long necks which made up half the total body length. It is known from numerous species which ranged in time from 160 to 145 million years ago, from the Oxfordian to Tithonian ages of the late Jurassic Period of China
largest species may have reached 35 m in length and possibly weighed 50 to 75 tons
3.Notocolossus gonzalezparejasi:
Notocolossus is a genus of herbivorous lithostrotian titanosaur sauropod dinosaur from late Cretaceous strata of Mendoza Province, Argentina
The evidence suggests that Notocolossus was among the largest titanosaurs, and therefore one of the heaviest land animals, yet discovered. Although the incompleteness of the skeleton of the new sauropod has prevented scientists from making precise estimates of its size
the body proportions of Notocolossus were comparable to those of better preserved titanosaurs, the new dinosaur may have weighed in the range of 44.9–75.9 tonnes ,most likely 60.4 tonnes
2.Alamosaurus sanjuanensis:
Alamosaurus is a genus of titanosaurian sauropod dinosaurs, containing a single known species, Alamosaurus sanjuanensis, from the late Cretaceous Period of what is now southern North America
adult Alamosaurus could have grown to enormous sizes comparable to the largest known dinosaurs like Argentinosaurus, which has been estimated to weigh 73 metric tons.Scott Hartman estimates Alamosaurus being slightly shorter at 28–30 m and is equal in weight to other massive titanosaurs such as Argentinosaurus and Puertasaurus
1.Argentinosaurus huinculensis:
Argentinosaurus (meaning "Argentine lizard") is a genus of titanosaur sauropod dinosaur first discovered by Guillermo Heredia in Argentina. The generic name refers to the country in which it was discovered
in 2014, Benson and colleagues estimated the mass of Argentinosaurus at 90 tonnes
