Prashar is one of the most offbeat places in Himachal Pradesh, situated about 52 km north of Mandi Bus Stand, with a three-storied pagoda-like temple dedicated to the sage Prashar.

About Prashar Lake:
Prashar is surrounded by Dhauladhar ranges in Kullu Valley, it is a blue-water lake called Prashar Lake. It is situated 49km North of Mandi, H.P, India (31.754456,77.0989784). There is a three storied pagoda type temple dedicated to the saga Prashar. You can see 180 degree view of Dhauladhar, Pirpanjal and Kinnaur mountain range. Prashar is surrounded by green colors topped with variety of flowers especially in monsoon season (July – Sept). During winters (December - Feb) it covered with white carpet of snow.
According to stories and locals, it is believed that the lake was formed by striking of rod (Gurj) by Rishi Prashar and water came out and then took shape of the lake. The ancient Pagoda style temple build their dedicated to the Rishi Prashar, the patron God of Mandi region.
According to locals, the temple was built in the thirteenth century, the whole temple was built by using single deodar tree and it took approx. 12 years to complete the temple construction. The perimeter of Prashar Lake is about 300 mtr and a floating island in it called as "tehla", actual depth of lake is not clear. In the month of June, a fair takes place there "Saranauhali" in the presence of large gathering of followers of Prashar Rishi.
There is a forest Rest House, HPPWD Rest House and Sarain of temple are available there for night stay on minimum charges.
To reach Prashar Lake, you need to first reach Baggi village, from where you can either reach by road and also can trek from forest.
How to reach Baggi Village
Baggi is the base camp of Prashar at Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.
If you are coming from Delhi or Chandigarh you have to follow the route toward Manali, on the way, get down at Mandi to reach Baggi. Also regular bus services is available between Delhi, Chandigarh and Manali, You can also go by your own vehicle. From Mandi you can easily reach to Baggi, locals can help you to reach there, you can also use GPS to reach there (check coordination of Baggi 31.7819374,77.0784195 )
Baggi to Prashar Lake
Baggi is the starting point of the trek. From here there are 2 ways to reach Prashar Lake (By Road or by trek from forest)
From Baggi, you need to follow the road, that road will reach till Prashar lake or you can choose by trek, (approx 8 km). The trek to Prashar Lake is extremely beautiful as it follows through forest on a small stream and some scenic views. Take a 'U' turn, and you will find a road going across inside the forest left side of road. Follow the road and after 30 minutes of walk, you will find a mountain stream at the right side of the road. The trek follows a charming trail through an oak forest and during trekking you will come across apple orchards also. You can see 180 degree view beautiful Dhauladhar range.
Our Journey:
We choose 3rd options and trek to prashar lake.On first week of Jan 2020, we reached Baggi, we already have bookings ther so we checkin to home stay with our guide there. after some rest and breakfast we started our trek to prashar lake, our guide told us that there is up to 3ft snow is there, if we could not reach there on time then we have to return back from the way, so with full of excitement we started our trek.
Due to snow we could not cover the trek on time and we have to return back after 5 km of trek.
