In this footage you can hear the thunderous sounds of the glacier, and see a live calving event caught on video. The glacier is ten stories tall and over two miles wide. Video was taken from a three mile distance and uphill. Calving events, like the one shown, and large tsunamis are becoming much more frequent in the area. Video courtesy of Megan Frayne, a science teacher at Norwich Free Academy, who spent the summer solstice in the Land of the Midnight Sun working with scientists studying the Greenland polar ice sheet to determine the effects of climate change and sea level rise.
