Porsche positioned the 944 as its replacement of the aging 924 and released it on the market in 1983 and it ran successfully through 1991 with just over 173,000 produced in both coupe and cabriolet form with 3 sub-models. All versions were offered with a inline 4-cylinder engine with both 2.5L and 3.0L displacements producing 143hp-165hp in the base car, 188hp in the S model, 208hp in the S2 model, 220hp-247hp in the Turbo model, and 250hp in the Turbo S model.

This 1989 S2 coupe is finished in code L041 Schwarz over a matching code L041 Schwar interior. It was delivered new at Montgomery Imports in Radcliff, KY and, per the original window sticker, it is equipped with $2,329 in optional equipment. The optional equipment is composed of $615 for partial leather front seats, $515 for the "Reno" radio, $324 for the hi-fi sound system, $313 for a rear window wiper, $286 for a driver side only electric sport seat, and $276 for a 4 x 20-watt amplifier system for an original as delivered MSRP of $44,794. Additional factory equipment includes the 3.0L inline 4-cylinder 208hp engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes with ABS and 4-wheel discs, front and rear stabilizer bars, air conditioning, cruise control, factory alarm system, removable sunroof, tinted glass, and 16" D90 style alloy wheels.

The original owner purchased it new from Montgomery Imports on 11/24/1989 and it would remain in their sole possession for 33 and a half years until our acquisition in the spring of this year. The original owner cherished this Porsche with a comprehensive service file on hand as well as beautifully preserving it for over three decades driving it just 37k miles. The stamped service booklet documents the work performed along with mileage increments from 1990-1997 as well as detailed physical service records are accounted also documenting mileage increments from 2001-2023. It was always garage kept and for most of its existence a Porsche branded leather bra and mirror covers acquired from the Porsche factory accessory program were installed protecting these painted surfaces.

Following our acquisition we had our trusted independent Porsche service center, Automotive Techniques in Novi, MI, perform and inspection, change the timing belts, and conduct an oil and filter change. We then purchased a set of new Continental ExtremeContact 02 tires from Tire Rack and had our local vendor, Plymouth Garage in Livonia, MI, mount and balance them as well as perform a laser alignment. We also had our local paint protection film vendor, Paintshield in Novi, MI, remove the factory original paint protection film pieces around the wheel arches, as they had cracked and yellow with age, and install new pieces. Finally, we performed an in-house paint inspection with paint depth readings, indicating original paint on all panels along with factory applied VIN stickers on the body panels, followed by performing a full body paint correction and 2-stage polishing as well as a wheels-off undercarriage detailing. Of note in the gallery is the undercarriage photos showcasing the factory Cosmoline is still applied.
