Toronto Fire - Mayday at 5th Alarm, Firefighter VSA, 10/19/2017

Toronto, Ontario Canada, October 19, 2017: Crews were dispatched at 18:19 hours EST with multiple calls reporting a fire in a three story townhouse. With-in 30 minutes the fire had been upgraded to a 4th alarm with firefighters on the exterior performing ground and aerial operations on all sides. Crews were interior performing searches and checking for fire due to the fire spreading across the roof to different units. At 19:09 hours, a mayday was transmitted for a a firefighter down and R.I.T. was deployed. District Chief was reported to be the firefighter down. A few moments later R.I.T. updated command that Chief 42 was VSA and resuscitation was in progress. The Chief was transported to hospital by Toronto Paramedics on an emergency run with Toronto Police in critical condition. Chief of Toronto Fire Services, Matthew Pegg later gave a statement stating that Chief 42 was stable.
