Restoration of Timothy L. Biggs' Headstone | Larkin Cemetery, Ohio
In this video, we document the restoration of Timothy L. Biggs' marble headstone at Larkin Cemetery in West Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. After receiving a request for a photograph of the headstone, we noticed significant biological growth and debris that had accumulated due to years of exposure to the elements.
The headstone, which was low to the ground, had become covered in algae, mold, and grass clippings. To restore its appearance, we used a combination of D/2 anti-biological solution, water, soft-bristle brushes, and wooden skewers to carefully remove the biological material and dirt.
As the D/2 solution continues to work over the coming weeks and months, it will gradually restore the headstone to its original color. Additionally, we addressed a potential sinking issue due to the headstone’s proximity to the ground by adding an extra base underneath. Finally, we used Akepox 5010 to secure the marble marker to the new base, ensuring its long-term stability.
This restoration was completed with respect to both the significance of the site and the preservation of the memorial for future generations.
