Reflective Portraits with Silver Space Blankets! | Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey

What happens when you flip the gold for silver? In this follow up “how to” session to Gavin’s golden portrait backdrop video, he’s putting the other side of those space blankets to work, and the results are stunning!

Using just two recycled, crumpled up, old emergency blankets, Gavin shows you how to build a shiny V shaped backdrop in a small home studio. He shares the results of his tests with three different flash modifiers (hard reflector, small softbox, and large softbox) and explains how they interact with the reflective surface and how they cast shadows on the models' face.

Once again, Gavin is joined by the amazing Chloe as his model and this time she is styled in shimmering silver and futuristic sunglasses to match the look of the cheap budget background.

As the photo session evolves, Gavin introduces a couple of colored gels to ramp up the drama and finally he shows why mounting the silver blankets on stands (not just the studio walls) unlocks a whole new level of creativity with a shape shifting backdrop!
