최근 육상에서는 인공지능 기술에 기반한 모빌리티 혁명이 일어나고 있다. 특히 자율주행 자동차 분야의 기술진전이 괄목할 만한데 4단계 수준의 자율주행 택시가 상용화되고 있으며, 낮은 단계의 자율주행시스템인 주행보조시스템인 ADAS는 최근에 생산되는 거의 모든 차에 탑재되어 차량의 안전성과 편의성을 혁명적으로 개선하고 있다. 자율운항 선박(MASS)은 비교적 최근에 제안되어 상용화가 시도되고 있고, IMO에서도 2028년 발효를 목표로 표준을 개발하고 있는 상황이다.
본 논문에는 HD현대그룹에서 개발중인 자율운항 기술과 상용화 현황을 소개한다. 개발 시스템의 운용사례를 통해 완전 자율운항이 아닌 자율화의 정도가 낮은 자율운항 기술이 업계에 줄 수 있는 가치를 소개한다. 또한 안전 및 친환경 측면에서 도움이 되는 자율 운항 기술의 조기 상용화를 위해서 업계가 공동으로 해결해야 할 문제들을 기술적인 측면, 법규적인 측면, 사회적인 측면에서 살펴본다

Recently, a mobility revolution based on artificial intelligence technology has been unfolding on land. Notably, there have been remarkable technological advancements in the field of autonomous vehicles, with Level 4 autonomous taxis becoming commercially available.
Additionally, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a lower-level autonomous driving system, are now integrated into almost all recently manufactured vehicles, revolutionizing vehicle safety and convenience. Meanwhile, Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) have been relatively recently proposed, with attempts at commercialization underway, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is aiming to develop standards for implementation by 2028. This paper introduces the autonomous navigation technology under development by HD Hyundai Group and its current state of commercialization. Through operational examples, it highlights the value that lower-level autonomous navigation technology, as opposed to fully autonomous navigation, can bring to the industry. Furthermore, the paper examines the technical, regulatory, and societal challenges that the industry must collaboratively address for the early commercialization of autonomous navigation technology, with a focus on safety and environmental aspects.
