In 1657, an attempt to exorcise a cursed kimono caused a devastating fire in Edo (present-day Tokyo), destroying 60% of the city and killing 100,000 people. This video explores how superstitions can become catastrophic, comparing the event to disasters like the Fire of Rome and the Great Fire of London. Cultural beliefs, from black cats to Japanese yokai, and their influence on modern traditions like Halloween and Christmas are also explored. Although Tokyo wasn't bombed during World War II, this fire is often compared to those events, or even the 1923 Kanto earthquake.
