A tribute video I made for what is probably one of the most amazing duos in the history not only of mountaineering, but of daring and great exploits as well. Two very different but equally talented and special men, who formed a gallant and brave team: the very team that made the first great ascent of Mount Everest - and disappeared in the mists of history, just like Sir Galahad (George Mallory's nickname) did when he finally reached the Holy Grail. Everyone has his own opinion on whether they actually made it to the top or not, but I for myself feel that this is not so crucial in the end, for what they attained on that day in 1924 far outweighs any other contemporary accomplishment (and even most future ones). The reason why they made it, their great camaraderie and strength, and what they both felt and experienced through it all will forever remain the greatest fascination and the key factor in this amazing adventure of courage and will, and that's why I wanted to pay a small tribute to both of them - George Herbert Leigh Mallory (1886-1924) and Andrew 'Sandy' Comyn Irvine (1902-1924). Music is provided by the amazing song "Be Still" from the Killers' 2012 'Battle Born' album; the quote at the end of the video is from a letter written to Mallory from his mentor and mountaineering authority Geoffrey Winthrop-Young.
