Recorded on February 20th, 2025.

Like the 8th symphony, yet another precious find that... I almost don’t want to reveal too much of to the world. This 7th symphony is one that screams elegance, regality, artistry, and spiritual fulfillment. Ludwig II of Bavaria was not a “mad king” in a sensationalist and connotatively negative sense, but a past king of modern-day Germany who much preferred engaging in the arts and architecture than to address bureaucratic and political matters of the state (something which I understand and can completely relate to).

This movement of the 7th symphony is such a joy to play; certain sections like from 1:49 exude such a high-class, dignified, and peaceful feel when played on an in-tune piano (which I have at home, but I cannot record such loud pieces at home nor can I normally practice at a volume over forte). The horns in this movement really sell the feeling.

Which is why, wouldn’t you want to hear the solo piano transcriptions of all of the 4th, 7th, and 8th symphonies all in one concert irl? I don’t really find it that exhausting to go through all of them at once (tbh I do it pretty regularly with two of them at a time for fun), and wouldn’t you wonder how much more extraordinary it’d sound on a piano that is in-tune, is a Steinway, and in a sound-optimized hall?

Also, isn’t the coda in the last minute or so of this movement just brilliant? It is so stoic and carries so much emotional weight with zero modulation; it just restates the theme over and over but it doesn’t tire out. It’s such effective minimalism without being canonically minimalist or sounding forced or stupid.

[NOTE] I do not and cannot afford to have the luxury of always recording on a perfectly in-tune piano, and that is the truth.

All piano works I’ve recorded:    • All Full Recordings
Solo piano transcription of the 3rd mov of the 8th symphony:    • Anton Bruckner: Symphony No.8, III. Adagio...

My goal through this channel is to bring vitality, spiritual depth, emotional evocation, and captivating narrative to underappreciated and unconventional music that captures the human experience to its fullest potential.
