The Neomorph, scientifically known as Plagiarus celerius, is a menacing extraterrestrial species created by a mysterious pathogen. While it shares some similarities with the well-known Xenomorph, such as its method of gestating within a living host and an elongated head, it possesses distinctive characteristics that set it apart.
These creatures first came to the attention of the crew of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation colony ship USCSS Covenant during an exploration mission on an uncharted planet. Neomorphs were subsequently encountered on LV-991 and the Union of Progressive Peoples mining planet Shānmén. These creatures originated from an alteration of the local ecosystem caused by the black liquid, which led to the formation of spore-filled egg sacs on the ground. Disturbed egg sacs released microscopic spores that entered host organisms through orifices like nostrils or ears, eventually growing into a Bloodburster. This process, although similar to the Xenomorph's chestburster, varied in terms of the point of emergence depending on the infection method.
Neomorphs displayed physical variations depending on their host species, with a pale, translucent appearance, fleshy tails with spikes, and numerous silvery fangs. Notably, they lacked the biomechanical aspects of Xenomorphs.
In terms of behavior, Neomorphs were extremely aggressive and animalistic, attacking on sight. They were less intelligent than Xenomorphs but demonstrated some stealth capabilities. Interestingly, they consumed the flesh of their victims, unlike Xenomorphs, suggesting a need for regular consumption of flesh to survive.
Unlike Xenomorphs, Neomorphs lacked an extendable inner jaw, and their closed jaws were nearly invisible. David, a character in the franchise, explained that the Engineer's black liquid mutagen aimed to create creatures like Neomorphs, instinctively hunting and killing all non-botanical animal life in an ecosystem.
The Neomorph's life cycle began with the formation of egg sacs, releasing motes that infected hosts and led to the rapid growth of Bloodbursters. These aggressive creatures would eventually mature into full-sized Neomorphs within a matter of hours, with a short lifespan of less than 24 hours. The cycle would restart as fungus interacting with a Neomorph's corpse transformed into new egg sacs.
In summary, the Neomorph is a fearsome alien species with a unique life cycle, marked by its aggressive nature, distinct physical features, and reliance on the consumption of flesh for survival. It represents a distinct threat in the "Alien" universe, alongside the more iconic Xenomorphs.
