María Luisa park is the most popular park in Seville and one of the most beautiful and breathtaking lush green scenery in the city. It is located to the south of the city centre right next to the Plaza España which is the centrepiece of the park. Parque de Maria Luisa Sevilla

It is a very fascinating park full of ponds and fountains, different pavilions and colourful benches. It is also full of Mediterranean pine trees, orange trees and colorful flowers especially during the season of spring. Aside from that, it is also home to different kinds of birds, ducks and swans that can be seen in the pond.

Originally this park belong to the Dukes of Montpensier as part of the Palace of San Telmo. When the Duke died, Duchess Maria Luisa Fernanda de Borbón decided to donate it to the city in 1893, converted into a public park by a french architect and became a magnificent setting for the ibero-American expo in the year 1929.

The huge park has so many interesting parts but the most significant and outstanding for the visitors are:

◾Plaza de America - one of the most touristic places in the Park. It is composed of three buildings built by the Architect Aníbal González for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 and each with a different architectural style. It also known as Plaza de las Palomas or Doves park in English because of its large population of doves around this area.

◾Glorieta de Bécquer - This monument is composed of the bust of the poet Adolfo Becquer, three women sitting on a bench that symbolises the 3 states of love (excited, possessed and lost love), the two bronze figures symbolised the wounded love and the young cupido symbolized that love hurts. This scene is inspired by Becquer's poetry collection Rimas.

◾Fuente de las ranas - the oldest fountain in the park. It is consists of eight frogs and a duck resting on a turtle wherein their mouths act as a fountain.

◾Fuente de los Leones - It consists of four stone lions, each carrying a shield placed on a fountain into which they spit water from their mouth.

◾ Water-lily Pool or Estanque de los Lotos - it is where usually ducks and swans swim.

◾Birds Islet or the Isleta de los Pájaros - There was a legend that this was the place where King Alfonso XII declared his love for María de las Mercedes. This place is surrounded by birds and ducks.

◾Guatemala building - The largest mansions from the fair, now serve as museums, including the Archeological Museum of Seville.

Maria Luisa park, parque de maria luisa is open everyday of the year that is why it is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy away from the noise of the city centre in which you can explore in different ways like walking, biking or by horse and carriage. You can visit this park along with the Plaza de España which is on top of the most visited places here in Seville.
