Theo lashes out at a new target in Coronation Street and it’s a beloved legend

Coronation Street viewers once felt a surge of sympathy for Theo Silverton, a man who initially appeared bruised by life but fundamentally decent. When Todd Grimshaw first crossed paths with him, Theo came across as thoughtful, attentive and quietly damaged someone who simply needed understanding and patience.

But that early goodwill didn’t last long. Subtle warning signs began to creep in, almost unnoticed at first. Theo’s charm soon curdled into possessiveness, and his unease around anyone close to Todd became impossible to ignore.

Before long, Theo was actively isolating Todd from the people who mattered most to him. Billy Mayhew, George Shuttleworth and Summer Spellman all found themselves pushed to the margins, as Theo tightened his grip and made it clear that Todd’s world should revolve around him alone.

What followed was a chilling pattern of emotional abuse. Theo chipped away at Todd’s confidence, mocking his appearance, criticising his eating habits and fitness, and controlling his daily routines until Todd barely recognised himself.

Coronation Street (colloquially referred to as Corrie) is a British television soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional Weatherfield, a town based on inner-city Salford, England.

Originally broadcast twice weekly, the series began airing six times a week in 2017. The programme was conceived by scriptwriter Tony Warren.
