Today, we’re diving into a head-to-head amplifier showdown featuring the Axxess Forté 1, Naim Supernait 3, and the McIntosh MC312. Using the same tracks but different setups, we’ll put these high-end amplifiers to the test to reveal their unique sound characteristics.

To fully appreciate the differences, we recommend listening with neutral and highly resolving headphones. Focus on key aspects such as dynamics, transients, instrument separation, and overall intelligibility.

While soundstage and imaging are harder to assess through headphones, don’t worry, we’ll dive deeper into those areas in an upcoming review. Keep in mind that the sound you hear is ultimately shaped by your headphones, but that doesn’t mean you won’t notice some intriguing differences!

All recordings were made on the same day using identical microphone setups and equipment. I applied only one single EQ adjustment to all recordings: a -5dB cut at 35 Hz with a Q factor of 5, to neutralize a boomy sub-bass caused by my room acoustics.
