Heart failure is a complex chronic condition impacting many patients in the US and around the world. We have gotten much better at diagnosing and treating heart failure, but it continues to have a high mortality, with a 5 year survival of around 50%. The pathophysiology of heart failure can be complex, but it is crucial to understand it if you are going to see patients with the condition. In this video we discuss the pathophysiology including to relationship with the kidneys and nervous system. Future videos will discuss specific treatments of heart failure with reduced vs preserved ejection fraction.
This video is intended to be at the level of 4th year medical student and internal medicine resident.
