In this video I document a real-time case study of an active fig tree borer infestation in my garden.
I begin by showing how the problem was discovered - small holes in the bark, sap staining and expeeled wood frass - and how these signs allow us to distinguish a wood-boring insect attack from primary fungal disease.
I then explain the diagnostic reasoning behind the response, including why the tree's fruiting status matters, why heavy pruning is avoided at this stage, and why mechanical interventions at this stage is the most effective first step.
The video goes on to show the immediate intervention itself: removing frass, physically destroying frass within the tunnels, treating the galleries with neem oil, and sealing the entry points to prevent reinfection and further stress to the tree. Follow-up videos will document what happens next - whether the intervention was successful, how the tree responds over time, and what can be done to reduce future risk.
