Basic Straight Razor Honing Guide, Lap Your Honing Stones, Ep1

The Friday Special Hone Of The Day. How To Lap Your Honing Stones, Basic Straight Razor Honing Guide Episode 1. Using a Norton Flattening Stone to Lap or Flatten the SUEHIRO 1000/3000 Grit Combination Waterstone along with the Shapton 8000 Grit Ceramic Whetstone and the Shapton M5 12000 Grit Ceramic Whetstone, and finishing with Imperia La Roccia 12000-15000 Premium Natural Honing Stone (ILR). For the Hone Of The Day we'll be using a Parker Best Silver Steel 13/16" 1/4 Hollow Ground Swdeish Steel Straight Razor.

4 Tips and Tricks when Lapping or Flattening Honing stones:
1. Honing stones need to be soaking in water around the same temperature as the air or at room temperature water for around 5 minutes or so.
2. Lapping or Flattening Honing stones using running water with the water around the same temperature as the air.
3. Use a pencil to mark a grid or pattern on the Honing stone to check your progress as you Lap or Flatten the Honing stone.
4. Once Flat return the Honing stone to the room temperature water to soak until needed for Honing.

Note: I soak my Honing stones in room temperature water when I'm going to be Honing. However, I don't store my Honing stones in water as thats not needed.
