Tsunami Waves Hit Hawaii & Japan, Earthquake Rocks Russia | The Opening Trade 7/30

A magnitude-8.8 quake struck, the strongest worldwide since 2011, off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday morning local time, triggering tsunami alerts from Japan and China to the US and Canada, and as far away as Indonesia and New Zealand. Four-foot tsunami waves were recorded in Hawaii, while remote parts of California also braced for impact.

European stocks slid following a flurry of disappointing earnings, while investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s policy decision. Disappointing results have dented an otherwise positive month for European stocks that was driven by abating trade uncertainty.
