Subway Series 2000 the final game of the series and the final game before the All Star break as the Yankees have one 4 of the 5 games in the last meeting before both teams would play in the real Subway Series when they meet again in October. Original ESPN Broadcast with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan from Shea Stadium. Recorded and Digitalized off the original VHS tapes which were later transferred to DVD through a DVD burner (cir.2002) the DVDs were recently restored/remastered to add to the Phenia Film MLB archival channel for the first time.
Starting Pitchers both on only 3 days rest Andy Pettitte for the Yankees and Mike Hampton for the Mets. Both teams going into this game with some bad blood since Roger Clemens drilling Mike Piazza intentionally in the head a few nights before taking him out of the series and on the DL.
Todd Zeile solo HR in the Botton of the 4th proved to be the game winner as Mike Hampton pitches a shut out through 7 innings before having some arm issues before giving up 6 hits and striking out 8 and walking 2 . Yankee starter Andy Pettitte pitched just as solid as Hampton, going 6.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits striking out 4 and walking 4. Mike Hampton with the win (9-5) Andy Pettite with the loss (9-5) and Armando Benitez with his 19th save after coming in to relieve Hampton in the 8th. the Mets come up with a win after a rough series with the Yankees when everything went right for the Yankees and nothing for the Mets as they played timid after the Piazza beaning which still lingered when they met in October never had a chance.
