The Rapture and Heavenly Activities
Revelation chapter 4 marks a pivotal transition. The rapture of the church is understood to occur before this chapter, as John describes heavenly activities beginning immediately. The presence of the church in heaven confirms that believers have already been taken up. From chapters 4 to 6, the focus is on worship, the throne of God, and the Lamb who alone is worthy to open the sealed scroll.

The Seven Seals, Trumpets, and Plagues
Throughout Revelation, three series of judgments unfold:

Seven Seals – opened by the Lamb, initiating events on earth.

Seven Trumpets – signaling further divine judgments.

Seven Plagues (Bowls) – representing the final outpouring of God’s wrath.

These symbols reveal escalating phases of tribulation, beginning with the seals in chapter 6.

The First Seal: The White Horse
Revelation 6:1–2 describes the Lamb opening the first seal. John sees a rider on a white horse, holding a bow, and receiving a crown. At first glance, one might assume this rider is Christ, but several details prove otherwise:

Weapon: The rider carries a bow, while Jesus is consistently depicted with a sword.

Crown: The crown is given to him, whereas Jesus is the King of Kings who bestows crowns.

Mission: He goes forth “conquering and to conquer,” unlike Christ who returns to wage war only at His second coming.

This rider represents the Antichrist, revealed after the rapture. His conquest is not through war but through diplomacy and deception. The absence of arrows suggests he gains power peacefully, welcomed by nations who surrender authority without resistance.

Biblical Cross-References
Paul’s teaching in 2 Thessalonians 2:7 aligns with this vision: the Antichrist is restrained until the church is removed. Once raptured, the “man of lawlessness” is revealed. Similarly, Daniel 9:26–27 prophesies a coming prince who will confirm a covenant for one week (seven years), then break it midway, halting sacrifices and ushering in abominations. This correlates with the Antichrist’s rise and betrayal during the tribulation.
