Centre Ustatshakirt, the Aga Khan Music Programme’s long-term partner in Kyrgyzstan, operates throughout the country's seven regions in collaboration with educational institutions ranging from primary schools to universities.
The centre’s flagship programme, Umtul, provides primary school students with an arts and culture component of their education through group instruction on the popular Kyrgyz stringed instrument komuz.
A complementary programme, Muzchyrak, offers professional development and curricular support for music teachers as well as furnishing participants with musical instruments. Over 10,000 students and 600 teachers have been trained through Ustatshakirt’s programmes!
Here’s a video shared by one of Centre Ustatshakirt's partner schools showcasing an ensemble of their students playing the komuz, the Kyrgyz national instrument.
