As a guest analysis on 93.9 Jordan FM Radio, Abuja, I explained that the belief in Africa that government has no business engaging in business—often defended to justify neoliberal ideas promoted by the West—is a deeply flawed intellectual position. Government exists to manage public resources for the public good, and economic engagement is central to that mandate.
Public services and national development cannot be outsourced or abandoned in the name of private-sector collaboration. The private sector is meant to support government efforts, not replace them. When government withdraws from its core responsibilities, the people suffer, and development becomes accidental rather than intentional.
