US President Donald Trump demanded immediate talks on acquiring Greenland in a hardline speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21. Trump reiterated that Greenland is part of North America, doubling down on his vow to seize control of the Danish autonomous territory. While saying that the US possessed "unstoppable force", Trump promised he would not use it to take the Arctic island from Denmark, which he called “ungrateful”. Meanwhile, Trump lambasted Europe on a number of fronts from Greenland to tariffs and the economy, saying it was "not heading in the right direction".
