In Gaza, access to clean water is a critical challenge. With the power plant destroyed and entry restrictions on solar panels and generators, communities struggle to pump water from boreholes. Doctors Without Borders teams came up with a temporary solution: a mobile generator on a tuk-tuk.
This vehicle travels to approximately seven locations daily, pumping water into tanks for domestic use in areas unreachable by water trucks. There are still severe limitations imposed by the Israeli blockade, as sustainable solutions requiring materials like pipes are dual-use and blocked from entry.
Now our registration has expired, Doctors Without Borders has not had any supply enter Gaza since 1 January. We continue to seek engagement with Israeli authorities so we can maintain our vital activities and support Gaza’s decimated health system. Denying medical assistance to civilians is unacceptable under any circumstances. Allowing humanitarian aid is not a favour.
