The horns were very good, but the bed was saddled and otherwise damaged. We welded the surface to restore the original geometry, flat surface, and sharp edges. The results were, as expected, mixed. The surface is softer than original with somewhat reduced rebound, but the anvil rings clearly, and was not phased at all by the edge hammering, including one miss, in the video.
I worked on a soft Hay Budden for 25 years. It was smoother when I sold it than when I bought it, because proper hammering doesn't ding anvils. Of course that beautiful Hay Budden, also 350 lbs,is completely outclassed by this anvil.
The transition to the horn is my favorite feature on the South German. The blends between positive and negative curvatures make forging there, as in the video, a delight!
