Selling Spring Calves | Best Price We've Ever Had!

In this video we start by loading four heifers that look fairly equal in size, onto our wee float. We take them to the mart where they go through the ring and are sold. Once back home Ruari mentions the prices we got for them. Next, we sort through the big group of calves to be sold, deciding which are good to go, and which are too small to sell and therefore should be kept back on the grass over the summer. We end up with 13 ready to be sold out of the 18 calves available with a last minute addition bring the numbers up to 14, once the replacement tag arrived. This was a bit last minute as the float arrived just as we finished tagging the calf. Once loaded and passports sorted, we went to see them being sold the following day. However, we missed our calves going through the ring as a result of being too busy in the morning to get everything else done. We did get a wee bit of footage of the calves in the pens in the back after the sale, to say goodbye. Lack of footage aside, it was a very successful sale, as our top price was more than we have ever made before, and the price per kilo was more for our heifers than stots. We finish off the video by explaining this and giving a sneak peak at some of the lambs already starting to arrive as we move into the lambing season.
