2022 Alaska - Deadman Lake Campground

If you're hikers, you may want to meet our canoeists in this video, Rod and Sharon. One of the curiosities that you'll discover, if you travel and camp in Alaska, is how often you'll meet fellow travelers over and over. And such was the case with Rod and Sharon who, at this first portal to Alaska along the Alaskan Highway, we met for the second time (and with whom we continued to engage and communicate throughout our summers' travels). But back to hiking. It seems not a day passes where you won't find this couple deep in the wilderness taking on miles and 'vertical' that would challenge a teenager (and, without divulging 'confidential data', Rod and Sharon are not teenagers). And Sharon is an unusually competent photographer (well, except when she tries to turn her iPhone into a 2000mm telephoto camera) who makes periodic posts generally incorporating 70+ photos.

Deadman Lake is an unusual camping spot. First, it's free - - although they do solicit donations. Second, those canoes, paddles, and life vests are supplied by the campground, again free. And they just 'sit there', unlocked, for campers to use.

If your route to Alaska is along the Alaskan Highway (and there aren't too many alternatives) . . . Deadman Lake campground makes an excellent Alaskan introductory stop.
