It's taken me the weekend to collect my thoughts on this, as a bamboo blog post kind of Blindsided everybody with a change to the way they communicate with the printer. There are some valid security concerns that would push a move like this, but it definitely felt like an attack on third party plugins even if those were based on non-official channels of communication.
Update: bamboo has provided an update prior to this going live but much later than I did all the editing. I'm going to go ahead and let this go live, because most of my remarks remain true regardless of the update. And they're update pretty much gave me what I expected was best case scenario. I'm going to have to jump on and get an update up tonight.
