Operating with unique power and little oversight, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has cut tens of thousands of government employees and slashed government contracts in the name of cutting what they characterize as waste and fraud.

Created by President Trump and led by Elon Musk, critics say DOGE has provided no evidence of fraud, and that their claims of savings are riddled with errors.

PBS News' Tim McPhillips spoke with White House Correspondent Laura Barrón-López about what — and who — really makes up DOGE, and how they have been operating.
