About the Contestants:

Our returning champion for this episode is Alissa Clancy. Alisa Clancy spent 36 years as Program Director at the Bay Area's jazz station KCSM Jazz91, where she hosted a Morning Cup of Jazz and Desert Island Jazz. She retired in 2021 and started working as a News Anchor and Reporter at KCBS in San Francisco. In the last 4 years she's covered fires, earthquakes, the election of Joe Biden, the rise of Kamala Harris, and the re-election of Donald Trump. She's a historian, musician, social and political activist, married to a musician with adult twin children-- also musicians.

Our challenger for this episode is Neil Tesser. Writer and radio host Neil Tesser has covered jazz in Chicago for more than 50 years, in media ranging from the Chicago READER to USA Today to National Public Radio to the New York Times to PLAYBOY Magazine. He authored The PLAYBOY Guide to Jazz (1998); edited Learning to Listen – the autobiography of famed vibraphonist Gary Burton (2013) – and has written liner notes for more than 600 albums, earning both a GRAMMY® award and the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. A board member of the Jazz Institute of Chicago, he helped program the Chicago Jazz Festival’s first four decades. He is a recipient of the Jazz Journalists Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award AND its award for Career Excellence in Broadcasting. He now writes for JAZZIZ and hosts a weekly program for station KSDS in San Diego, with an emphasis on Chicago jazz.

Jazzology is a fun jazz-themed trivia show, live streamed on YouTube via StreamYard. The show is hosted by Willard Jenkins, a director, curator, and writer for Open Sky Jazz. The questions range in difficulty and theme, covering personnel of iconic groups, historic jazz landmarks and events, and other jazz-related trivia. There will also be a $100 prize for the winner of each episode.
