BMW Group’s largest engine plant located at Steyr in Austria chose ABB’s GoFa collaborative robot to move components for engines across conveyor belts. BMW Group worked with Austrian systems integrator Nomotec to achieve its ideal solution of creating a two-belt linear conveyor system that sees parts picked from one conveyor and placed on another by GoFa. Not only does the solution improve quality and avoid stoppages but ABB’s cobot proved the ideal answer allowing for safe working side-by-side with humans, with no safety barriers, and saving space around the production area.
