Scary Bucketman Review – The Worst Horror Game on PS4?

Ladies and gentlemen, I have played some bad games in my time. I’ve endured some of the worst horror games the PlayStation Store has to offer. But nothing—nothing—could have prepared me for the sheer absurdity that is Scary Bucketman. A game so cheap and so utterly devoid of effort, that I genuinely questioned my life choices after playing it.

Yes, Scary Bucketman is a real game, and yes, I paid money for it. 29 cents, to be exact. And let me tell you, even that feels like too much.

In today’s PS4 horror game review, I’ll be taking a not-so- deep dive into Scary Bucketman—its gameplay, graphics, sound (or lack thereof), and, of course, the ridiculously easy Platinum trophy that takes less than a minute to earn. If you’re here because you’re looking for easy platinum trophies on PS4, well, technically, you’re in the right place. But let’s be real: there are far better ways to boost your trophy count than suffering through this.

For those unfamiliar (which, let’s be honest, is everyone), Scary Bucketman is an indie horror game available on the PlayStation Store. If you were expecting something like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, or even Five Nights at Freddy’s, you’re about to be severely disappointed. This game doesn’t try to be scary, fun, or even functional.

The official game description? "Scary your friends to get candies!"
That’s it. That’s the entire pitch. No plot, no story, no explanation—just scare, collect candy, repeat. If this were an Untitled Goose Game-style experience with hilarious chaos, I’d be all for it. Instead, it’s just mind-numbingly dull.

The gameplay in Scary Bucketman is as deep as a puddle. Your goal is to walk up to some vaguely humanoid figures, press a button to "scary" them (yes, that’s the actual phrasing), and then collect a bucket of candy. Do this five times, and congrats! You’ve beaten the game.

Oh, but don’t expect tight controls or anything resembling game design. This game doesn’t even have a jump button—instead, it forces you to use the D-pad for jumping like it’s 1995 again. The hit detection is atrocious, the movement is stiff, and there’s no challenge whatsoever.

If you’re looking for bad PlayStation horror games, congratulations, you found one.

Here’s a fun fact: Scary Bucketman has no soundtrack. That’s right—zero music, zero ambiance, nothing. Just pure, unfiltered silence. You’ll hear some basic sound effects, but they’re so generic and lifeless that they may as Now, if there’s any reason someone might actually buy Scary Bucketman, it’s the easy platinum trophy. And when I say easy, I mean ridiculously easy. You can 100% this game in under a minute—yes, 60 seconds or less. Just run through all five levels, press a button a few times, and boom! Platinum unlocked.

If you’re a PlayStation trophy hunter looking for a quick and easy platinum, sure, this game technically delivers. But at what cost? Is a meaningless digital trophy worth subjecting yourself to this level of suffering? Only you can decide.well not exist.
