In this beginner tutorial I'll show you How to get the most out of your coloured pencils by using light layers.

Layering is one of those skills that will really help elevate your artwork.
It will transform your pictures by adding depth and dimension, while having different colours shine through one another.
There are so many ways you can use layering, like shading, adding texture, mixing different colours, smoothing out the surface by removing visible pencil lines and more.

Today I will be using Derwent Lightfast. This is a new set in my coloured pencil collection, and I have yet to use these for a picture, so I thought it would be interesting to check them out. We are going to colour in Small Victories and Adult Colouring Book by Johanna Basford.
I want to use complimentary colours, so if you have a colour wheel, they can be quite helpful for this. I’m going to be using yellow orange, with blue violet as the complimentary colour. Then you can change this for the other dinosaurs.
I’ve picked out a few pencils for each colour.
